CLEAR GALLERY TOKYOでは、アーティスト nyke による個展「PLAY」を開催いたします。

本展は、いくつかのシリーズによって構成され、作家自身の好奇心を可視化する行為を軸としています。
2004年頃からグラフィティを始め、2018年よりアーティストとして活動を本格化させたnykeは、
壁に描くという即興的でスピードのある行為を起点に、キャンバス、コラージュ、スクリーンプリント、立体構成など、
多様な手法を通じて無意識の状態に現れる深い意識を描き出します。

本展「PLAY」では、ストリートカルチャーとギャラリー空間のあいだを行き来するように、
動きと静、素材と痕跡、文字と意味が交差するインスタレーション的な空間が展開されます。
それは、グラフィティという行為を静謐な空間に持ち込むことで、観る者自身の中にある
時間や記憶を呼び覚ます試みでもあります。

アーティストステートメント

キャンバスに描かれた線は、グラフィティカルチャーで自分が積み重ねてきた時間の“証”だ。
スプレーで吹きつけられる一瞬のストローク、ステッカーを貼っては剥がされ、描いてはバフされる——
それらをキャンバスへ、そしてギャラリーへと移すとき、距離が生まれ、静寂が生まれ、観るという行為が生まれる。
その独自のカルチャーで培ったマテリアルの知識と感覚をキャンバスに持ち込み、
線と文字と素材、その重なりを通して「記憶」と「現在」を往還させる。
作品に刻まれた“痕跡”が、誰かの次のヴィジョンへのヒントとなるように。

展示構成

Collage Zone
ストリートの壁面を想起させる大型作品群。スプレー痕やタグが飛び交うようなエネルギーを持つコラージュ作品。

One Stroke / Trace
文字と素材のレイヤーを可視化。ストリートの“時間”を感じ取れる素材展示も併設。

Large Scale Works
S80サイズの作品を背景に撮影可能なスペースを設置し、作品と観客の関係性を拡張。

Vision Zone（入口／クロージング）
“PLAY”というタイトルに呼応し、次なるヴィジョンを象徴する作品で締めくくられる。

アーティストプロフィール

nyke
福岡出身、福岡在住。
2004年ごろよりグラフィティを始める。
2018年からアーティストとして活動を開始。
グラフィティで培ったマテリアルの知識や経験を生かした制作を得意とする。
いかに自分の「好奇心」に素直でいられるかというテーマのもと、
絵画、ZINE、コラージュ、立体、映像などジャンルを問わず制作を続けている。

Exhibition Overview
CLEAR GALLERY TOKYO is pleased to present “PLAY”, a solo exhibition by nyke.

Comprising several series, the exhibition centers on acts that visualize the artist’s curiosity.
Since beginning his graffiti practice around 2004 and expanding his career as an artist in 2018,
nyke has translated the instantaneous gestures of street expression into canvases, collages, screen prints, and sculptural compositions—
exploring the emergence of deep consciousness from an unconscious state.

“PLAY” traverses the boundary between street culture and the gallery,
creating an installation space where movement and stillness, material and trace, letters and meaning intersect.
By bringing graffiti’s vitality into a contemplative white space, nyke invites viewers to reconnect with their own sense of time and memory.

Artist Statement

The lines drawn on canvas are a testimony to the time I’ve accumulated within graffiti culture.
Each spray stroke, each sticker applied and peeled away, each piece painted and buffed over—
when these gestures are moved into the gallery, distance arises, silence appears, and the act of seeing begins.
Bringing the material knowledge and sensibility I’ve gained from this culture onto canvas,
I let the overlaps of lines, letters, and textures oscillate between “memory” and “the present.”
I hope the traces engraved in my work will become hints toward someone else’s next vision.

Artist Profile

nyke
Born and based in Fukuoka, Japan.
Began graffiti around 2004 and started his artistic career in 2018.
Known for works that utilize his material knowledge cultivated through graffiti culture.
Guided by the theme of remaining true to his own curiosity,
nyke explores multiple mediums including painting, zine, collage, sculpture, and video.
