上田真央香のキャンバスの前で足を止める。
一見するとポップで愛らしいキャラクターたちは、その輪郭をぐにゃりと溶かし合いながら、画面の中で増殖し、うねり、ひとつの巨大な生態系を形成しています。
私はこの光景に、情報が濁流のように押し寄せ、あらゆるものの境界線が曖昧になっていく現代社会そのものの姿を見ました。
私たちは今、確固たる自分を保つことが難しい、流動的で不安定な世界を生きています。彼女の描く造形たちは、
そうした現代人の抱える無意識の不安や、揺らぐ身体感覚を鮮やかに代弁しているかのようです。
しかし、彼女の作品がただのカオスに陥らないのはなぜか。 それは、どれほど表層が歪んで見えようとも、画面の奥底に、宇宙の摂理や生命の脈動にも似た強固な秩序が張り巡らされているからではないだろうか。全体を俯瞰したときに立ち現れる、息を呑むような調和。
それはまるで、どれほど理不尽で不安定な世界にあっても私たちを生かそうとする見えない法則が存在していることを証明しようとするかのようです。
私がCLEAR GALLERY TOKYOで彼女の個展を開催したいと強く惹かれたのは、その圧倒的な視覚言語の奥に人間の根源的な肯定と祈りを感じ取ったからです。
理屈ではなく、まず細胞が共鳴するような体験。 上田真央香が途方もない熱量で描き出す世界の真の姿を皆様自身の目で、そして体感していただきたいと思います。

上田 真央香（Maoka Ueda） 1996年兵庫県生まれ。ロンドン芸術大学セントラル・セント・マーチンズ、チェルシー・カレッジ・オブ・アーツにて、5年間アート＆デザインを学ぶ。自身の原体験と自然界の法則を交差させ、生命のエネルギーを独自の視覚言語へと翻訳。国内外で個展・グループ展多数、アートフェアにも精力的に参加している。

Stopping short before Maoka Ueda’s canvases, one is instantly enveloped by a compelling visual gravity.
At first glance, her pop, endearing characters project a sense of familiar charm. Yet, look closer, and their contours dissolve into one another—multiplying, surging, and mutating across the surface to form a vast, living ecosystem. In this visual phenomenon, I recognize the very zeitgeist of our contemporary society: a world inundated by a torrential downpour of information, where boundaries of all kinds are continuously blurred. We exist within a fluid, precarious reality where maintaining a steadfast sense of self has become increasingly difficult. Ueda’s warped configurations vividly articulate the collective unconscious anxiety and the shifting somatic sensations that define modern humanity.
Yet, what prevents her work from devolving into mere chaos? It is the underlying, immutable order woven into the depths of her canvases—a structure akin to cosmic providence or the primal pulse of life, hidden beneath the distorted surfaces. When viewed as a whole, a breathtaking harmony emerges. It is as if she is testifying to the existence of an invisible law that sustains us, no matter how absurd or volatile our world becomes.
What ultimately compelled me to host her solo exhibition at CLEAR GALLERY TOKYO was this profound sense of existential affirmation and prayer resonating beneath her overwhelming visual vocabulary. This is an artistic experience that bypasses mere intellect, reverberating at a visceral, cellular level.
I invite you to witness and physically encounter the true state of the world, rendered through Maoka Ueda’s extraordinary energy.

[Artist Profile] Maoka Ueda
Born in Hyogo Prefecture in 1996. Ueda spent five years in London immersing herself in art and design, studying at Central Saint Martins and Chelsea College of Arts, University of the Arts London (UAL). By intersecting her personal formative experiences with the mathematical and structural laws of nature, she translates the vital energy of life into a unique visual vocabulary. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Japan and internationally, as well as art fairs.
