Biography
1991年 鹿児島生まれ、現在鹿児島を拠点に活動。
Born and currently work in Kagoshima.

私は化石や殻、石などの自然物の造形美や質感に惹かれます。生きてきた痕跡、摩擦や風化によって生まれた形や質感に美しさを感じます。なぜそこに美しさを感じるのか考えるようになったのが制作の始まりです。
陶芸には手びねりという技法があります。手びねりとは、土を塊を転がして紐状にし、その紐状になった土を円を描くように積み上げていく技法です。この技法は、縄文時代と変わっていない原始的な技法です。原始的な技法で１つの紐を積み上げて、形をつくっていく過程が現代の3Dプリンターにも繋がっていることが純粋に面白いと感じています。手びねりで土を積み上げていく過程が自然物が成長する過程、例えば樹木が年輪を刻み、貝殻が層を刻みながら生きている過程と繋がり、様々な過程を積み上げながら生きている自分自身と重ねることを表現の根幹としています。

Iwakiri is attracted by the materiality and aesthetic appearance of nature, such as fossils, husks, and stones, feeling beauty on those created by friction and disintegration. Why does he feel beauty there? Questioning himself as such was his trigger of making art. hand-building is a method of ceramic art. Rolling the soil till it becomes like a rope, then layering those in a circle. This method is very primitive, and it is purely interesting for him that the traditional method is just like a 3D printer. The process of building a stone by hand-building connects to that of germinating, and ultimately he can see himself in this immeasurable time process. That is the core of his expression.
