からかう、はしゃぐ、ふざける。
私の無知さに、改めて辟易する。
誰かが発する突拍子もない言動や相容れない諍いに、応戦するよう賛同し、又は反発し野次する。
私の無知さに、改めて賞賛する。
英語を習い続けている日本人の私は、ほとんど習得できてない語学を理解していると感じ、楽しみを覚えていくなか、今度はロシア語を解釈しようと唾をつける。そこから知るウソかホントか誰も知らない事実みたいな歴史に、一喜一憂しながらその感覚に恍惚とする。
私の無知さに、改めて予感する。
何もかも馬鹿にはせず、真っ直ぐ純粋に、誰かと何かと交渉を始めている。無知ゆえ重ねていく事実と不実は、健全で篤実なからかいである。
この度CLEAR GALLERY TOKYOは、ミズタユウジによる 「SPORT / スポート」展を開催いたします。
絵画や写真、コラージュなど様々な表現で作品を制作しているミズタユウジは、20年以上に渡りテキスタイルアーティストとしても活動を続けています。
CLEAR GALLERY TOKYOでは3回目の開催となる本展では、作家のフェティシズム（テキスタイルに向ける偏愛）をベースに、現実と空想とが混在した心境小説のような世界を、テキスタイルを用いた作品を通して綴っていきます。様々な要素によって隔てられた社会の中で、個の尊重を訴え、その小さな一声は大きな一筋となり、また新たな境界線が引かれ、繰り返される矛盾と自練磨。
それに対して、ミズタは”無知”という時にはとても残酷な方法で、暗黙の了解として避けられているラインを軽やかに飛び越えていきます。純粋で無責任な「なんか、かっこよくない？」は、作家の堂々たる宣言であり、公然と正しいと発せられる言葉から意味を切り離し、イメージの輝きを回復させようとする、作家の美術に対する挑戦でもあります。
I am fed up with my ignorance again.
Sometimes I agree with whatever other people say and do, no matter how irresponsible, as if I’m in full support, and yet at other times I feel repulsed by their actions and sneer at them.
I am entranced by my ignorance again.
I can barely understand a word of English, even though I’ve been studying for years, and yet the process of learning is such a joy. Now, I’m even trying to learn a few words of Russian. Listening to historical facts I don't deeply understand makes me glad and sad by turns. It’s a truly enchanting feeling, and it makes me fall into a kind of trance.
Something will come of my ignorance again.
I will enter into negotiations with an open heart, without looking down on or making fun of anything. Making use of my ignorance to overlap facts and untruths is great sport—wholesome and sincere.
CLEAR GALLERY TOKYO is pleased to announce the solo exhibition, "SPORT" by Yuji Mizuta.
Working as a textile artist for over 20 years, Mizuta has developed his artistic practice through various techniques including pencil drawings, photography, and collage.
In his third exhibition at CLEAR GALLERY TOKYO, he depicts a novel-like world, a mixture of reality and fantasy, based on his fetishistic love for textiles. Appealing for personal respect in a society divided by various factors, our small voices become big rays of hope, but every time a new boundary is drawn, the same contradictions and dilemmas are repeated. Yuji Mizuta hops lightly over the line known as "ignorance", a line that is often tacitly ignored in a very cruel way. In so doing, the pure and irresponsible thought, "Isn't that kind of cool?” becomes a bold, fearless declaration. It is also a challenge to him as an artist—to try to recover the brilliance of the image by detaching its meaning from words that have been publicly declared to be correct.

ミズタユウジの作品はドローイング、ペインティング、コラージュ、刺繍やプリントなど多様な手法を用いて制作されている。繊細で緻密な構想から生まれるいくつものモチーフは、その背景にある様々なストーリーに応じて、テキスタイルや紙の上で変化をし、ある一つのビジュアルとして具現化される。東京の他、コペンハーゲン、シンガポールなど、国内外で個展を開催。パブリックアートの制作、ASICS, Found MUJI, ISETAN MITSUKOSHI、arflex Japan などの企業や、アーティスト、スタイリストとのコラボレーション、デザイン提供なども行う。
Yuji Mizuta is an artist who expresses an original, delicate, and detailed worldview by applying the concepts of time and narrative to motifs drawn from various media, including pencil drawings, photography, and collage. He then incorporates these images into textiles, paintings, and open spaces, creating pieces that are not limited by strict definitions of art and design. He has held solo exhibitions in Tokyo and overseas, including Copenhagen and Singapore. He is also actively involved in collaborations of textile designs, graphic designs, and illustrations with companies such as ASICS, Found MUJI, ISETAN MITSUKOSHI, and arflex Japan, as well as artists and stylists, and provides designs.
長年の間、私は布に翻弄させられています。その向き合い方はまるで初恋をした青年のように、青酸っぱい瞬間が永遠に続いているのです。それ故に、テキスタイルへの創作は、纏う、包む、縛るといった、行為の延長にある彼ら（布）の一瞬の表情を捉えようと試みたり、私が見た、感じた情景を彼らに語りかけるように、一刺し一刺し、一刷り一刷り重ねて当時の情景を再現したりと、いかに上手く私と向き合ってくれるか、触れてくれるか、振り向いてくれるか。布の素材や技法を表現するというよりも、布との触れ合いを求めるための行為や行動を創作に込めています。
For me, the act of creating art on a piece of fabric is an attempt at capturing momentary expressions on his (the fabric’s) surface as an extension of actions such as draping, wrapping, and tying; reproducing what I see and feel by overlaying stitch after stitch, impression after impression as if I were talking directly to him (the fabric), and asking myself how well he (the fabric) is reacting to me. Rather than merely depicting the nature of the fabric—the materials and methods used in its manufacture—my creations express my efforts to engage with it.
