We’re pleased to announce having a solo exhibition by Joji Nakamura for the first time in the last 3 years at Clear Gallery Tokyo.
Nakamura’s paintings rely interpretation of “something” between abstract and concrete on audience, and his improvisational and rich lines seem to include his will.
The world of Nakamura, which had been pictured by white and black before, gained colors and became much eloquent. It is like an unconscious casual answer toward a question of “A meaning of no meaning” like Zen riddle.
Please join us to solo exhibition by Nakamura with full of new works.
For this exhibition, I consciously painted portraits.
Although I’ve been painting those, I’ve not professed it often. Painting portraits is almost meaningless behavior for me. ...well, you may interpret this in negative, but I don’t mean so.
“There is no meaning. However, I would be able to ingenerate something new instead of meaning. Is it strength? Is it a sense of presence? Is it a beauty?”
When I considered such things, ‘painting a portrait’ somehow persuaded me.
As I asked myself a question “what are there in objects of my painting?” again and again, I made those works.
I might unconsciously hope to see something beautiful without meaning.
